2nd Year Historical Walk
Our Lady’s Secondary School Belmullet had their annual guided Historical Walk of Belmullet on Nov 5th. Neal Doherty was their guide and he informed students about the founding of Belmullet by William Carter and the design of the town by Patrick Knight. Students learned about some famous visitors to Belmullet including John Millington Synge and Jack B Yeats; the creation of the canal and the various bridges as well as the establishment of the workhouse were discussed in the context of the famine in the area. Students practiced their Irish in translating the Prophecies of Brian Rua and more recent history was experienced in the visit to the War Memorial.
Students will have an abundance of inspiration for completing their history CBA (The Past and My Place) in the coming weeks. Thank you to Ms Creane, Ms Barrett, Ms Burke and Tracey and Amy for accompanying the students.
